PUNCTUATION & CAPITALIZATION



Here are for students who confused about writing assignment, I have some informations about capitalization and punctuation, it’s just the basic of english to help you learn writing a text correctly. I have read it from my book for Senior High School in KTSP curriculum... just share for you all, go ahead :)

CAPITAL LETTERS 

  1.  To Begin A Sentence
            A sentence begin with a capital letter. The capital letter must be
            a good one.
   
     2.   To Begin Names Of
            Persons : Ben and Rizqi were good friends.
            Places : He lives in Eastbridge, a small town just outsde Newtown.
            Times:  Monday, Wednesday, Friday,  March, July, October.
            Event : Harvest Festival, World War II, Youth Pledge Day.


FULL STOP (.)

  1. To End A Sentence
            A sentence ends with a full stop. The full stop must be a good one.
  1. To Mark Most Abbreviations Of
            Names :           H.O.S  Cokroaminoto
            Title     :           Mr. And Mrs. Shahrul, Ms. Niluh
            Degrees :         B.A., M.Sc., Ph.D, M.D.
            Others :           a.m., p.m., vol.
                                    B.C., A.D. (before christ/ anno domini) 
                                    Sebelum masehi/Masehi

QUESTION MARK (?)

  1. To End A Question
            What’s your name?
            How are things?
            Have you been to the museum?
  1. To Mark Question Tags
            It’s a interesting movie, isn’t it?
            You  don’t want to be late for the show, do you?
  1. To Mark Doubts
            Socrates (470? – 339 BC) was condemned to death for 
            his unpopular ideas.


COMMA (,) 

  1.   To Present A List
            They collected unused paper, clothes, and other things
             from the houses.
       2.   To Mark Adverbial Construtions
            Therefore, we stopped the working.
            When he came, they pretended.
       3.   To Mark Introductory Items
            Yes, you’re right.
            No, we don’t want that.
       4.   To Present Direct Speeches
            The  woman said, “ hold the door for me, please!”
       5.   To Mark Parential Item (appositive)
            The other team, meanwhile, has completed five laps.
       6.   To Write Dates And Addresses.
            Today is thursday, October 28th, 2007.
